2020 Impact Report
2020 Impact Report
A Message from the Executive Director
Dear Friends and Supporters,
How glad we all are to see 2020 gone! Reflecting back, I can’t help but remember the extreme hardships that affected the communities we serve and the fears and anxiety so many people suffered. Lack of food, political turmoil, jobs lost, children not in school – these are only some of the many challenges that people faced, and sadly, continue to confront. But I can also think of those hopeful signs amid the tragedy – people helping their neighbors, organizations quickly pivoting to provide aid and renewed action to hold our country accountable to the promise of equality.
Bright Promises, too, found 2020 to be a challenging year. Responding to challenges is in our DNA; that is how we have been able to continue to meet children’s needs for over 150 years. Below you will find a summary of our 2020 Impact Report, highlighting how Bright Promises extended and expanded our work to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. We hope you will visit our website to view the full report and learn how your support helped Chicago children and youth last year.
As we usher in 2021, we recognize that the challenges of 2020 have not faded away. Children are struggling, whether at home or back in school. They are worried about their present and their future. Bright Promises is responding by building on our programming to support children’s mental health and wellbeing. We are continuing to ensure that young children receive high-quality care and education. And in 2021, we are launching an exciting new initiative that recognizes how racism causes trauma and creates barriers that harm children and hold them back. Our new program will be truly unique, pioneering approaches so that others may follow.
Bright Promises believes that together, we can make a real difference for children. Together means our great staff, our dedicated board, our tireless volunteers, our committed partner agencies, and of course, the many donors like you who step up when we need them the most. Thanks to all!
With gratitude,
